From a small garage to over 100 employees, LuMar Electric’s story is one of family, ambition, and unwavering dedication. Discover how two cousins built a trusted name in electrical services across New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
From a garage to a company with over 100 employees, LuMar Electric’s journey is one built on family, trust, and relentless ambition.
Cousins Luc (Lu) Chiasson and Mario (Mar) Leblanc grew up together, but it wasn’t until adulthood that their paths officially crossed in business.
Both inspired by Luc’s father, an experienced electrician, they entered the trade early. Mario, while still in high school, would often spend afternoons helping Luc on job sites.
Their passion for the craft led them to forgo the traditional college route and dive straight into hands-on apprenticeships.
After gaining years of industry experience separately, including time working out west in Calgary, Luc and Mario returned home.
They operated their own independent contracting businesses but often collaborated. It didn’t take long before they realized they could build something bigger together.
In 2011, LuMar Electric was born. The name, a blend of “Lu” and “Mar,” was Mario’s idea.
They started humbly, setting up shop in Luc’s garage — proudly referring to it as “the shop” even though it was a modest 15-by-20-foot space.
From the start, they believed in branding and professionalism, plastering the LuMar logo on trucks and equipment.
The early days were fueled by coffee, cold calls, and a lot of hustle.
Luc and Mario worked tirelessly to build relationships, winning clients not just with competitive bids but with genuine enthusiasm and follow-through.
They faced a highly competitive market, but what they lacked in size, they made up for in persistence and passion.
Landing their first large apartment building project was a turning point.
Although daunting, they embraced the challenge, believing that the only way to grow was to step into bigger opportunities — even before they felt fully ready.
Over time, LuMar expanded, adding departments for residential, commercial, multi-unit development, and service & maintenance.
This diversification allowed them to keep employees working even during market slowdowns.
Today, LuMar Electric is proud to have a team of over 100 talented individuals.
Many of their early employees are still with the company — a testament to the strong culture of loyalty, growth, and mutual respect that Luc and Mario fostered from day one.
At LuMar, success is measured not just by the number of projects completed but by the community they’ve built and the opportunities they’ve created for their team.
Take a look behind the scenes at where it all started—from makeshift desks and packed trailers to the first job sites.
