Some things about a company do not show up on a project page. Our golf event is one of them — a day each year that takes the crew off the jobsite, puts our clients on the same course, and lets both sides of the business meet each other as people.
Third year, and getting bigger
This was the third annual LuMar golf event, held at Pine Needles. Three years in, it has grown every time — enough carts now that they line the length of the clubhouse before anyone tees off.
Why we keep doing it
The reason is simple, and it is the same one every year: put the staff together in a different vibe than when they are usually at work, and put our clients in the middle of it.
On a normal week our crews are spread across sites in Moncton, Riverview, Dieppe and Prince Edward Island, and rarely all in one place at the same time. Our clients, meanwhile, know the two or three electricians who have worked in their building and nobody else. A day on a course fixes both of those at once — the crew gets to know the clientele, the clientele gets to know more of the crew, and nobody is talking about a schedule.
It is part of how we hire, too
We are not shy about the fact that culture is a recruiting argument.
